Morningside Neighborhood | Atlanta, GA
Morningside is located in the northeast area of Atlanta – from Piedmont Road east to Briarcliff Road and from Amsterdam Avenue north to the rail line. Johnson Estates, Lenox Park, University Park, & Noble Park are within the Morningside Neighborhood boundaries. Development in Morningside began in 1923. By 1925 development on North Highland added shops to the area (now in the building where Rosebud Restaurant is located). Morningside Elementary opened in 1929. Johnson Estates & Hylan Park began development in 1930. Atlanta architects Ivey and Crook designed homes in Lenox Park which began development in 1931.
There is a diverse architectural history in Morningside with a mix of English Tudor, English Cottage, Craftsman, Mid-century Ranches, French & Spanish inspired homes and new construction homes including a few contemporary.
Today Morningside Neighborhood is a cohesive community with an active association known as Morningside Lenox Park Association and a Morningside Neighborhood Security Patrol. Morningside is a very beautiful and walk-able neighborhood. Streets are lined with trees & sidewalks. There are great restaurants, shops and parks in Morningside. Morningside Lenox Parkwas founded in 1931. It is located north of Virginia-Highland, east of Ansley Park and west of Druid Hills. Development of Morningside’s Noble Park, Johnson Estates, and Hylan Park began in 1930. In 1931, Lenox Park was established with homes designed by Atlantan architects Ivey & Crook.
