Midtown.   The southern half of midtown was originally purchased by Richard Peters in 1848 to use the pine pine forest there for fuel for his downtown mill.   Over the next 40 years, Peters sold off  residential land lots.  He built his own house was built on Peachtree on the land and his son, Edward built his house here as well.  Today Midtown is home to historic homes (craftsman, Four-squares, Victorians), new construction homes, lofts, condos, townhomes, high rises, office space, restaurants and shopping.    You will also find Piedmont Park, The Atlanta Botanical Gardens, The Fox Theatre,  and the Woodruff Arts Center.  Click here for more information on Midtown Neighborhood Assoc and here for info on the Midtown Alliance.
