Decatur was incorporated in 1823 and named after Stephen Decatur, a naval hero.    Decatur is listed on the National Registrar of Historic Places.   One of the few towns in metro Atlanta with a town square in tact – you can visit the Decatur Square where you will find the history center, restaurants, shops and outdoor venues for fireworks and picnics.   The City of Decatur has it’s own police department and school system.   Outside of the City of Decatur limits – many addresses will still contain Decatur but will be part of   Dekalb County.   Decatur is large area and there are numerous neighborhoods in Decatur and various architectural styles including bungalows, four squares, modern homes, new construction, townhomes and condos.   Click here for more information on Decatur.
